Disney.

This are two shots from two of Disney's earliest films; Snow White & The Seven Dwarves and Cinderella. The way these two films have been illustrated has become timeless and I believe this is due to the fact that they were hand-drawn animations, something I believed should be used in films more as it has a more realistic effect onto it's audience than 3D animation films.

JRR Tolkien.

Not only did JRR Tolkien create the mystical lands for his books 'The Hobbit' & 'The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy' he also created all the illustrations for the books and therefore did all the art work that went with them. The illustration above is for a scene in 'The Hobbit' where bilbo and the dwarves have just been captured; the way this image becomes so moving is by the simple use of colour, by having it just in black and white it makes all the patterns stand out more, therefore making you pay more attention to each element happening within the picture.

Arthur Rackham

What I really like about Rackham's work is that there is a subtle fragility to all of it, wether this is due to the subject matter being fairytales; most of which are viewed with an almost childlike understanding; or his attention to fine detailing shown in all of his works. I feel these three illustrate my point well as they all vary in intricacy yet they all have been created with the same level of dedication.

The Many Faces of Medusa

Following the link below will take you to a slideshow of different versions of Medusa. The reason I've included this because it shows the various ways topics and starting points can be interpreted. I feel this is a great example as Greek Mythology has been around as a influence for every style of art for as long as art has existed and every image of her is as individual as the previous one and forever changing whilst still maintaining the elements that show it is Medusa.

Alice in Wonderland illustrations.

Alice in Wonderland has always been a tale that has inspired a number of contemporary art pieces; wether they are photographs or 3D pieces. However none of these pieces would have been able to be created if it wasn't for the original art work that came in the Lewis Carroll books. What I love about the original artwork is that it is strictly line drawing and yet is still able to convey strong emotions through each piece in the books.

Patrick Demarchelier

What I love so much about this photograph is that rather than the location being overly like one you would find in a fairytale the dresses themselves are what makes me think of a fairytale as they're the sort of over the top extravagant, work of art style dresses.
